How shipping works

How public shipping will work

  1. 01

    Post the load

Pick a category and describe what's moving, where from, where to, and when. About two minutes, and it costs nothing.

  2. 02

    Read the bids

One number from each hauler, all-in — fuel, their time, the run home. Compare the total you would pay, their business name and USDOT, and whatever equipment they say they will bring. You choose. We never assign anyone.

  3. 03

    Book it

Accept the one you want. The built flow asks your card issuer for a temporary authorization of the bid plus our fee — the whole figure on screen before you confirm. A card authorization is temporary and can expire or be released before delivery. It is not a completed charge or a guarantee of payment. If it expires or capture fails, another payment step is required.

  4. 04

    Confirm delivery

If the authorization remains valid, Stripe is asked to capture after delivery — when you confirm it or, if you do not respond or open a dispute, after the disclosed response window.

What it costs

The bid, one published fee, nothing after

Haulers keep exactly what they bid, so they bid what they actually want to earn rather than padding for a cut. The fee is added on your side and shown on the checkout screen — no fuel surcharge that turns up later, no accessorials invented after delivery.

  • Posting a load and collecting bids will be free
  • 4%, on the screen before you pay
  • Cancelling is free until your hauler sets off

The full breakdown, including what cancelling costs at each stage, is on the pricing page.

Your money

What happens to your money, moment by moment

Handing a stranger your cattle or your excavator is risk enough on its own. The payment is built so the money only moves when the load does.

When you accept a bid

At booking, the built flow asks the shipper's card issuer for a temporary authorization of the disclosed total. It is not a completed charge or a guarantee of payment and can expire. If it remains valid, Stripe is asked to capture after delivery — on shipper confirmation or after the disclosed response window unless a dispute is open. If it expires or capture fails, another payment step is required. Payout begins only after successful capture.

When it's delivered

If the authorization remains valid, Stripe is asked to capture after delivery — when you confirm it or, if you do not respond or open a dispute, after the disclosed response window. Payout begins only after successful capture.

If something goes wrong

Open a dispute from the booking and the charge stops while it's open. Both sides file what they have and each can read the other's. HaulHand cannot record an agreed outcome yet, so unless you settle it between yourselves a published rule decides it at the 72-hour deadline.

If plans change

Cancel free right up until your hauler sets off. After that you cover the wasted run — a flat $75 today, and never a slice of what your load is worth. Once it's on the truck, the full bid is owed.

The rules this marketplace will run on — paperwork haulers must file, how disputes work, and what HaulHand is not — are spelled out on the safety page.

Questions

What shippers ask

Is HaulHand open yet?

Public shipper accounts and load posting are waitlisted. There are no live loads today. Hauler accounts are open now; public load posting is waitlisted. What works today is the load builder: no account, nothing posts, and it checks whether the required category-specific details are complete. Tell us your routes so we can decide what to open first.

How much does it cost to ship a load with HaulHand?

Public shipper accounts and load posting are waitlisted. There are no live loads today. Posting a load and collecting bids is free. When you accept a bid, you pay that bid plus our platform fee — 4% — shown before you confirm. On a $1,240 bid the fee is $49.60, so you would pay $1,289.60 and the hauler receives $1,240.

How does bidding work?

Public shipper accounts and load posting are waitlisted. There are no live loads today. Haulers bid one firm, all-in number — fuel and their time are already in it, and nothing is added after delivery. You compare the total, the business bidding and their USDOT, and whatever equipment they name, and you choose who gets the load. We never assign a hauler.

When is my card charged?

Public shipper accounts and load posting are waitlisted. There are no live loads today. When you accept a bid, the built flow asks your card issuer to authorize the disclosed total. A card authorization is temporary and can expire or be released before delivery. It is not a completed charge or a guarantee of payment. If it expires or capture fails, another payment step is required. If the authorization remains valid, Stripe is asked to capture after delivery — when you confirm it or, if you do not respond or open a dispute, after the disclosed response window. The booking shows the response deadline.

What does cancelling cost?

Public shipper accounts and load posting are waitlisted. There are no live loads today. Nothing, right up until your hauler sets off for the pickup. Once they're on the way you cover the wasted run, and it goes to them in full — HaulHand takes none of it. The policy is $2.25 a mile with a $75 minimum, but we cannot measure that distance yet, so today every cancellation at this stage is the flat $75. Once the load is on the truck, the full bid is owed. Every tier is published on the pricing page before you ever book.

Who hauls my load?

Public shipper accounts and load posting are waitlisted. There are no live loads today. Independent operators. Before a hauler can later bid, the product requires acceptance of the current onboarding version and manual account approval. The current role material is the hauler onboarding material (version 2026-08-22); accepting it records the hauler's acknowledgment that insurance appropriate to the work and any required operating authority are their responsibility. That acknowledgment is not evidence the documents exist or that HaulHand checked them. What you see on a bid is the hauler's business name, the USDOT or MC number they gave us, and the equipment they say they will bring. Those numbers look up free on FMCSA's public register, and you make the choice yourself.

Is HaulHand the carrier?

Public shipper accounts and load posting are waitlisted. There are no live loads today. HaulHand provides marketplace software and does not physically perform the haul or operate the vehicle. When shipper access opens, the transport contract will be between you and the hauler you choose. HaulHand does not insure loads. HaulHand's regulatory classification — including any broker, carrier, freight-forwarder, or state requirements — has not been cleared for public transactions. Public loads and transactions remain closed. Haulers are independent operators responsible for their own authority, insurance, and compliance.

Got a truck as well as loads? HaulHand runs both directions — see how hauling works. Creating a hauler account does not add shipper access while public shipping is waitlisted.
